To obtain a Life Agent (LX) or a Fire & Casualty (FX) license, you must first
qualify for and pass a written examination. Applicants must satisfy the
mandatory educational curriculum to qualify for a written examination with the
Department of Insurance.
Life Agent and Fire & Casualty Broker-Agent Licensing Information
Pre-licensing Experience/Education:
 | The Department of Insurance requires a
minimum of 40 hours of approved pre-licensing classroom/online study, along with 12
hours of approved pre-licensing classroom/online study on ethics and the California
Insurance Code, for a total of 52 hours of pre-licensing class. |
| Where an applicant seeks both the Life
license and the Fire & Casualty license, the applicant shall only be required
to complete one 12 hour course on ethics and the California Insurance Code. |
